Andres Acosta, February 2018

Abstract painter Andres Acosta joined us in February 2018 to share 1 work a day under the theme  "Re-Appropriating Forms of Revolution".

About the series, Andres says: What is painting in 2018? Andres Acosta answers this question through a new technique dubbed Neo-Pastiche. Acosta practices Neo-Pastiche through intense technical studying of the masters of abstract painting such as Wassily Kandinsky, Kazimir Malevich and Jackson Pollock that result in original works. Acosta believes the impact of these artistic forces cannot be bounded in art-historical periods and can still survive today through Neo-Pastiche. This series is dedicated to Kazimir Malevich's painting 'Dynamic Suprematism', 1916. Acosta saw this painting as a gesture to continue Malevich's exploration of color and form in painting through geometric shapes, showcasing the potential of Neo-Pastiche.
